The new organ has cost £1.2 million, and is a mechanical action instrument by the Danish firm of Marcussen and Son.
The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester's new international concert venue, will be the home of the Halle Orchestra and the main performance base of the BBC Philharmonic and the Mancester Camerata. The new organ will be the 'jewel in the crown' of this 2400-seat state of the art facility.
The Bridgewater Hall Organ is the largest to be installed in Britain this century and has been designed to handle the complete organ repertoire, from delicate pieces to large-scale orchestral works. It will have 75 stops, two consoles (one fixed and another roving for use anywhere on the concert platform) and its 5500 pipes will range in size from 2 inches to 32 feet.
The Bridgewater Hall has appointed Wayne Marshall as the venue's organist in residence.
